Hank Williams (September 17, 1923 – January 1, 1953), born Hiram King Williams, was an American singer-songwriter and musician regarded as one of the most important country music artists of all time. In the short period from 1947 until his death, at 29, on the first day of 1953, Williams recorded 35 singles (five of which were released posthumously) that would place in the Top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers chart, including 11 that ranked number one.

His father, Elonzo Williams, worked for the railway and was transferred often, so the family lived in several towns in southern Alabama. When Elonzo was hospitalized for eight years, the family was left to fend for themselves. Young Williams, whose own health was diminished owing to spina bifida, helped provide for his mother and sister. While the family was living in Georgiana, Alabama, Williams met Rufus Payne (nicknamed Tee-Tot), a black street performer who gave Williams guitar lessons in exchange for meals. Payne had a major influence on Williams’s later musical style. During this time, Williams informally changed his name to Hank, believing it to be a better name for country music.

When the sun goes down on New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey, Kenny Chesney takes the stage and will be making a huge impact in the NY/NJ area for country music!!!
The August 13th show has already topped last year’s concert at New Meadowlands Stadium by The Eagles, Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban in sales and is the single biggest ticketed country show in the NY/NJ area since Willie Nelson was joined by Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Linda Ronstadt at Giants Stadium in 1983.
“When I first heard we’d be playing at the Meadowlands, I was ecstatic,” Chesney said. “It has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember and will be an unforgettable evening for everyone involved.”

“I don’t know if taking a chance is the right word, but to be honest with you it was a little bit of a risk to play Meadowlands Stadium,” Chesney said.  (via Associate Press, click HERE for more) “But my whole touring life has been a risk. … One day I said, ‘You know, I want to be able to say I played the New York-New Jersey area and I did it in a football stadium.’ We almost did it two years ago, and so now I felt like the time was right. I’m glad I was right.”

Chesney, “the biggest ticket seller in country music and among the elite touring artists in the world” (Billboard) and “one of a handful of acts still capable of filling stadiums” (Wall Street Journal) will be performing in the NYC area for the first time since his 2009 performance at Jones Beach and the release of 2010’s ‘Hemingway’s Whiskey’ (BNA), which includes current hit “You and Tequila” featuring Grace Potter.
The August performance is part of Chesney’s ‘Goin’ Coastal’ Tour, highlighted by The New York Times and USA Today atop their lists of the year’s biggest tours, and marks Chesney’s eighth consecutive tour selling more than a million tickets. Of a recent show, The St. Paul Pioneer Press wrote: “The Tennessee native delivered the same high-energy, fan-friendly show that made him the second-biggest selling live act of the past decade.”

Toby Keith does it again! Not only did he release yet another song that expresses his passion for America, but he backed it up with another powerful video.  “Made In America” is Toby’s newest single from his upcoming album and is sure to leave goosebumps when you hear it.  Check out his new video for “Made In America”.

Billy Currington is definitely doin’ something right when he is onstage in front of tens of thousands of people as he opens up for Kenny Chesney on the “Goin’ Coastal Tour”.  Currington packs in the hits during his 60 minute set that has fans on their feet from right from the start.  Kicking things off with “That’s How Country Boys Roll”, Currington rolls hit after hit giving fans an entertaining performance from beginning to end.

Currrington is a laid-back kinda guy, but his performance is anything but.  He is energetic & exciting to watch as he works the entire stage, including the catwalks, and interacts with fans giving high-five’s & handshake’s all over the place.  Performing his hit singles, fans sang right along to hits such as “People Are Crazy”, “Pretty Good At Drinking Beer”, “Good Direction”, and his newest single”Love Done Gone”.  Fans were even treated to Hank Williams, Jr.’s well-known tune “Family Tradition” which of course was a crowd pleaser as was his strong ballad “Must Be Doin’ Something Right”.  Billy Currington put on a remarkable set that served as a fantastic prelude for the evening’s main event.

If you haven’t seen Billy Currington live in concert yet, be sure to add it to your list. To see if he is coming to an area near you, visit his official website www.BillyCurrington.com.
